TODAY'S DIALOGUE - January 21, 2004

MUSIC VIDEOS GLORIFYING BAD BEHAVIOR ARE INFLUENCING KIDS

The Thriller's gone - Washington Times
What's the big deal? Proponents of free artistic expression will cite the artist's right to make videos and the viewer's option to turn the channel. However, the issue is not adults and choices, but the negative influence of such videos on our youth.

  • TRENDS - Do you think that music videos establish the trends or reflect the trends and mentality that culture already has? Explain. Do you think laws should be established to limit what gets aired or what is allowed to be printed (on video)? Explain.

  • IMITATION - Who do you like to imitate? Do your favorite imitation of someone famous. What is it that draws you to mimic an artist or actor? Do you mimic your friends at all?
    1 Corinthians 11:1; 1 John 2:6

  • INFLUENCE - How much influence does music have on others around you? What influences the way you dress? What do you do to keep these music channels from defining you? (Keep in mind; you may not watch these videos but your culture does.)
    BAD INFLUENCE - Genesis 3:6; Jeremiah 17:2; 3 John 11
    GOOD INFLUENCE - Matthew 5:13; Mark 4:21; 1 Corinthians 7:16; 1 Thessalonians 1:7; 1 Peter 2:12
