Red ink banned from primary books - BBC
But Penny Penn-Howard, head of school improvement for Sandwell Council, said: "The colour of the pen used for marking is not greatly significant except that the red pen has negative connotations and can be seen as a negative approach to improving pupils' work. "Therefore, it is quite legitimate for a school to have a consistent policy that it uses a different colour."

  • What do you see as the purpose for the red pen markings from any of your teachers? What difference would it make if your teachers corrected you with green ink or red ink? What color do you wish they would use?

  • Look at 1 Corinthians 3:12-15. What kind of grading system does Jesus use? What if teachers were to take unacceptable work and just burn it right there in the classroom? Suddenly the red pen isn't that bad.

  • Have you ever felt rejected? When was it? What happened that made you feel rejected? What effect did it have on you? Did you change at all because of it? Explain.

Study Says Broken Homes Harm Kids More - Associated Press
The study used the Swedish national registries, which cover almost the entire population and contain extensive socio-economic and health information. Children were considered to be living in a single-parent household if they were living with the same single adult in both the 1985 and 1990 housing census. That could have been the result of divorce, separation, death of a parent, out of wedlock birth, guardianship or other reasons.

Watch out for 'adult' ads -
The typical American child today cannot escape the bombardment of sexuality, in every medium, at every moment, day or night. It happens at the movies. It happens on television. It happens on the radio. It certainly happens in advertising. Ad critics used to be outraged about "subliminal seduction." In these randy times, almost nobody's subliminal about seduction.

College freshmen: Worst study habits in years but less likely to drink, study concludes - Associated Press
The study, released Monday, found only 33.4 percent of college freshmen reported spending six hours per week or more studying or doing homework during their senior year in high school. It was the lowest percentage since the survey question was first posed by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1987.
