The Marriage Is Over, but What About Fido?
- ABC News
"It does not come up frequently, but when it does, it's a big time issue," said Gary Skoloff, a New Jersey family law attorney and the former chairman of the family law section of the American Bar Association. "People are willing to litigate the custody of their pet to the end. It becomes almost like fighting over the custody of a child."

American Lifestyles Mix Compassion and Self-Oriented Behavior
-
Barna Update
New research by the Barna Group shows Christians make the same lifestyle choices unbelievers do. Look closely at "The Role of Faith" and "Moving Forward" in this Barna Update. Are we really being salt and light?

- How does your faith in Christ guide your life? Where do you see it play out in your daily schedule?
- See Matthew 5: 13-14. If you add salt to food, or turn on light in the darkness, there is a dramatic change. Is this change reversible? What does Jesus say about Christians who have lost their close connection to God, or "saltiness"?
- See Matthew 5: 38-48. What trait did Jesus want his disciples to be known for? How would it set them apart?
- Why is it important to live out who you are in Christ everyday, in each situation you are in? How have you been doing that at home, work, or school?
- See 2 Peter 1:3-9. God has provided us with all we need to live a "salty" life that honors him. How do we maintain a living, vital relationship with Christ that is both effective and productive? What are you and your family doing to maintain that relationship?
Be sure to check out next week's dialogue as we discuss Barna's conclusions on Christian compassion in America. How are we answering the call to be Christ's hands and feet?

Raising Kids For True Greatness
You want only the best for your kids. And you want them to be successful. Sure, there’s nothing wrong with that. But what if there was something more? Could your definition of success be leaving out the most important part?

How do you define success for your child? “Graduates from a prestigious college.” “Nabs a high-paying job.” “Settles down with a nice family.” Sounds good. But what if you got it all wrong?
What about greatness? Where does it fit in? “If you aim your children at anything less than greatness, you’ll set them up to miss the whole point of their lives,” says author Tim Kimmel. In Raising Kids for True Greatness, Kimmel turns the definition of success on its head and guides you in preparing your child for a life that will easily eclipse the goals of those who are merely successful.
