Poverty
in America -
If you're a poor adult in America, for the most part,
it's all your fault. That's true, at least today, whether you're black,
white, brown or polka dot.

- Do you fear being in poverty? Why or why not? What steps have you
taken to stay out of it? What other steps can you take?
- Whose fault is it if someone is in poverty? Whose responsibility
is it to get people out of poverty?
- The article mentioned drugs, alcohol and having babies out of wedlock
as a few examples of a destructive lifestyle that leads to poverty.
What are some other examples of a destructive lifestyle (gambling,
pride, pornography, greed, smoking, lying...)?
- Proverbs 20:13; 28:19; 30:8; 2 Timothy
5:8 -- What is our duty to the poor? Psalm
41:1; Matthew 5:42; 25:35-36; Isaiah 58:7-10; Ephesians 4:28; Proverbs
31:9, 20; Luke 18:22; Romans 12:8.

Bush
Increasing Religious Allusions - Associated
Press
President Bush, often portrayed as using a strict good-and-evil
compass to navigate national issues, has always peppered his speeches
with exhortations to moral and civic duty. With war, tragedy and terrorism
confronting him now, his allusions to spirituality and morality seem
to be increasing.
ABC
puts away the flag pins
-
Near the end, the panel discussion turned to Fox's Tony
Snow, who mischievously wore a flag pin on his lapel. That decision
saddened Ted Koppel, who said it leaves people with the unfortunate
impression that those who refuse to wear the pin are somehow less patriotic.
His boss, ABC News President David Westin went much further than that.
He banned flag pins on ABC reporters. Why? Because "I think our
patriotic duty as journalists in the United States is to try to be independent
and objective and present the facts to the American people and let them
decide all the important things."
