The Marriage Is Over, but What About Fido?

  GOOD VS. EVIL

Pat Tillman, one of the 36 - World Net Daily

There is a famous Jewish legend that holds that at any given time, there are 36 tzadikim – particularly good people – living on earth. Thanks to them, the world does not self-destruct. If the number were to decline, the world would end.

  • Do you think there are more good people in the world or more evil people? How did you come to your conclusion? How would you define a good person? How would you define an evil person? Based on your definitions, does everyone line up on one side or the other - or is there some kind of middle ground? If there is some middle ground group, what would you call those people?

  • The article referred to a Jewish legend that states there are 36 particularly good people in the world. Do you view this legend as pessimistic or optimistic? Explain. Out of the 6.5 billion people in this world, if only 36 are good... are you one of the 36? What makes you think that you are or are not one of the 36?

  • Are all followers of Jesus good people? Why or why not?
Point to ponder: We are all sinners, it is our nature (Romans 3:10, 23; 5:18-19). Paul talks about the war that rages within us between the flesh and the spirit (Romans 7). David was considered a man after God's own heart even with the sins he committed. Are you going to strive to be a pillar of righteousness or settle for the average, "middle ground" person? Use the Bible Study Tool to the right to help you on this. This would make a great family study topic.

  • Here are some other verses to look at. 2 Timothy 3; Romans 8:13-39.

Raising Kids for True Greatness

How do you define success for your child? “Graduates from a prestigious college.” “Nabs a high-paying job.” “Settles down with a nice family.” Sounds good. But what if you got it all wrong?

What about greatness? Where does it fit in? “If you aim your children at anything less than greatness, you’ll set them up to miss the whole point of their lives,” says author Tim Kimmel. In Raising Kids for True Greatness, Kimmel turns the definition of success on its head and guides you in preparing your child for a life that will easily eclipse the goals of those who are merely successful.
