Panhandlers'
stories don't pan out
- KFOR
So, if they are not supporting a homeless family after being laid off in a bad job market, what are they begging for? Could it be alcohol? We'll come back to this group and hear their explanations in a minute.

- We are told in 2 Corinthians 9:6-10
to be generous and giving. Scripture also tells us not to hold on
tight to our possessions because they are just going to burn and there
are no U-Haull's that deliver to Heaven so you can't take it with
you.
- With the above in mind, what do you do when people ask you for a
handout? What would you do differently for a personal friend, a friend
of a friend, or someone you've never met before? What is your policy
on giving money to people or even organizations for that matter?
- Do you tend to give people the benefit of the doubt - that they
will use the money for what they really need? Or do you tend to be
pessimistic and think that people will just use it to support their
drinking or drug habits? How does this affect your giving ability?
- If you are in a tight financial hole yourself, is it all right not
to give at all until you are better off financially? (i.e. you
are deep in consumer debt - is it okay not to tithe so you can pay
off your debt quicker?)
- What does scripture tell us about giving? Use the Bible Study Tool
to the left to help you find more scripture. Ephesians
4:28; Romans 12:8; Matthew 6:1-4; 1 Timothy 6:17-19; Psalm 37:26;
41:1; 112:5; 112:9; Proverbs 22:9.
