"Buddies"; Friend or Faux? - LA Times
(free registration required)
The buddies are software applications also known as "bots."
They're programmed to make friends and small talk, and they're eerily
good at it. They take cues from a human acquaintance's questions and
answers and search databases for conversational fodder. Bot-speak can
be formulaic and stilted. It can also be witty, provocative and startlingly
lifelike.

- What do you think these "bot buddies" are exposing about
our society?
- How often have you looked for the perfect companion (not necessarily
a mate) and been let down?
- What is it that is so attractive about these buddies? What need(s)
are they fulfilling? (loneliness, unconditional love)
- What if there was a GodBuddie? How popular do you think it would
be? Do you think people would actually consider it to be God? Would
this be idolatry or do you think God would actually be involved? What
do you think people would ask or say? What would you ask or say?
- What scriptures come to mind?
2 Timothy 2:13; Hebrews 13:5;
1 John 4:10; 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; John 15:13; James 5:16; 4:2; Philippians
2:8
