A Girl or Boy, You Pick - LA Times (free registration required)
She had the name picked out since high school: Logann Rae, taken from a soap opera. She had two dolls waiting in a closet, both saved since childhood. Tanya had always dreamed of having a daughter, and of the intimate bond that would grow as they picked out dresses together, styled their hair and painted their fingernails. But Tanya's first child was a son. Then came another. When an ultrasound showed that her third child was also a boy, she struggled to hide her tears from the nurse.

  • With technology getting enormously more sophisticated, you have you ask yourself, when does life begin? When does a person's rights begin? Is it wrong to pick the sex of your baby? What about "filtering" out embryos with disease?

  • What do you think about the fact that this practice is outlawed in England and Germany but is allowed here in America without much accountability or regulation?

  • How do you think Tanya's boys feel about their mother's obsession with having a daughter? Do you think they might be thinking about the three male embryos that were discarded from the batch? (Interesting to note the same number of rejected male embryos as are males that were born to her.)

  • When you hear Dr. Marik's statement, "Is there a medical reason to have liposuction? Is that a misuse of medical technology?" What do you think he equates a human embryo to? (human life vs. fat tissue)

  • Imagine applying for your first job. You hope you have the qualifications just to get in the door. You hope that your talents, gifts and abilities will far outweigh any negatives that might be seen in you. Imagine the rejection when your interviewer says, "I'm sorry. But you're just not what we're look for." Only, in this case, you are applying for life and a family. And, in this case, rejection could mean a trash can or a freezer.

    Jeremiah1:5; Exodus 21:22-25; Psalm 51:5; 139:13-16; Luke 1:41,44

While women have broken gender barriers, men still favour traditional roles - The Toronto Star
"Women have become doctors, but men haven't become nurses," agrees Frank Reid, director of the centre for Industrial Relations at the University of Toronto. "There was the perception that men had an advantaged situation and we brought women into that world...

  • Are women trying to make men more like women? Explain.

  • What do you think is holding most men back from being all they can be? What is your definition of a "real man?"

  • Do you think it is okay for a man to stay at home and take care of the children while the woman brings home the bacon?

Study: Women have better emotional memory - USA Today
"The wiring of emotional experience and the coding of that experience into memory is much more tightly integrated in women than in men," said Canli, the lead author of the study. "A larger percentage of the emotional stimuli used in the experiment were remembered by women than by men."

Amendment: Separation of atheism and state - World Net Daily
Imagine that it was not the 9th Circuit, but the United States Supreme Court that made the “under God” decision. Imagine that instead of two nervous circuit judges, it was five brazen Supreme Court Justices declaring the Pledge unconstitutional in some nightmare future years from now – five secular devotees who’d been patiently waiting for a chance to save government from the “ancient superstitions” of its people. And soon more secular decisions come down from the high court: “In God We Trust” is rejected as the national motto. Prayers are forbidden at inaugural ceremonies. And on and on.

Reported number of teen virgins rises - Washington Times
The turning point occurred in the mid-1990s, right around the time the federal government started funding abstinence programs teaching teens to save sex for marriage, said Peter Brandt of Focus on the Family, a traditional values group in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Bill legalizes trusts for the family pet - Washington Times
Thanks to a new Florida law set to take effect Jan. 1, a dog — or cat, horse or bird — can be not only a man's best friend but also his most esteemed heir.
